KMGBF Target 7 requires urgent, coordinated action to reduce synthetic pesticides risks and use, by combining various agroecological practices tailored to context. Moving away from hazardous pesticides can improve farmer incomes and protect human and ecosystem health.
Real progress emerges when different stakeholders begin to see themselves as part of a shared endeavour—learning from one another, building trust across differences, and connecting what works locally to what matters globally. Join CIRAD's PRETAG, Nexus Action-Montpellier Process and Bioversity-CIAT to shape the transition.
EVENT OBJECTIVES
- Demonstrate that reducing dependence on hazardous pesticides is a concrete and measurable entry point for food systems transformation—simultaneously advancing farmer livelihoods, human health, environmental sustainability, food security and food system resilience.
- Show that progress towards KMGBF Target 7 requires inclusive, iterative dialogue across farmers, indigenous communities, health professionals, scientists, policymakers, private sector, and consumers who each hold partial knowledge—coherent with the ‘Whole of a Society Approach’ promoted by the KMGBF.
KEY OUTCOMES
- A set of practical recommendations for strengthening Science-Policy-Society Interfaces for reducing pesticides use and their impacts on ecosystem and human health, as promoted by the Nexus Action-Montpellier Process approach.
- Feed the CBD COP17 discussions on the nexus between pollution, food systems transformation, resilience and inclusive governance.
