From 19 to 30 October 2026, Armenia will host the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in its capital, Yerevan, under the theme “Taking Action for Nature”.
Biodiversity underpins the health and resilience of food, land and water systems. From plant genetic diversity to healthy soils and ecosystems, biodiversity is essential for sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation, and nutritious diets.
COP17 marks a critical step in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). For the first time since its adoption in 2022, countries will collectively review progress against the Framework’s 23 targets, assessing whether the world is on track to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030.
CGIAR’s work contributes to 12 of these targets through the conservation and sustainable use of agricultural biodiversity, integrated landscape planning, restoration, monitoring, capacity strengthening, and the development of implementable policy and finance solutions.
At COP17, CGIAR will host the Food & Agriculture Pavilion, a hub for insights and practical solutions on conserving, restoring, and using biodiversity, both in the field and in genebanks. CGIAR and its partners will run a full program of events on topics from cryopreservation and on-farm monitoring to financing nature-positive solutions and the role of pollinators in building resilience.
For those unable to attend in person, the events will be livestreamed and recordings will be shared on YouTube.
