Agrifood systems emit a third of global GHGs and drive nature loss, yet harmful subsidies persist. This event explores farm-level transition pathways (agroecology, agroforestry, organic) and financial tools (PES, blended finance, green loans, value-chain contracts) to finance the agricultural transition, share risks and reward farmers fairly.Â
Â
EVENTÂ OBJECTIVESÂ
Some transition pathways are already emerging at farm level, including agroecological practices, diversification, organic conversion, agroforestry and the deployment of on-farm renewable energy. At the same time, a range of public and private financial tools is being developed to support these transitions, from targeted public incentives and Payments for Ecosystem Services to blended finance, green loans, value-chain contracts and performance-linked instruments. The event will explore how these emerging pathways and financial solutions can be scaled up, while better sharing transition risks and costs and ensuring fair remuneration for farmers.Â
KEY OUTCOMESÂ
- Identify promising agricultural transition pathways and the financial solutions that can support their deployment at farm level.Â
- Share concrete examples of innovative public-private financing mechanisms that help better distribute transition risks and costs.Â
- Identify key conditions to scale up agricultural transition finance while ensuring viable and fair remuneration for farmers.Â
