CGIAR is committed to the transformation of food, land and water systems through its 2030 Research and Innovation strategy. Transforming these systems demands strong approaches to analyze and make decisions about complex farming and food systems including their components, interconnections, trade-offs and synergies. To achieve this, strengthening system science capabilities in the CGIAR and partners is crucial.
Several initiatives embraced systems thinking and practice to improve the overall sustainability of small-scale farming and develop adapted solutions to transform the agricultural, food, land and water systems.
In this session, the application of systems science developed by CGIAR initiatives, centers and partners across diverse regions, will be presented showing the breath and diversity of approaches and applications. Implications and future pathways to strengthen systems sciences in the CGIAR Portfolio 2025 will be discussed. The insights gained from the side event will help inform an agenda for a larger CGIAR and partners’ meeting focusing on systems science priorities and opportunities within the CGIAR portfolio.
