Transforming agrifood, land, and water systems to be sustainable, healthy, and productive requires not only technical policy solutions but also a sound understanding of the underlying policy processes and transitions to ensure uptake and implementation. This is especially true during crisis periods, when decisions must be made quickly. However, policy processes are often opaque, complex, and influenced by multiple governance dynamics, hindering efforts to identify viable entry points for necessary reforms.
Over its more than fifty years of research to inform policies and programs, CGIAR has navigated change and complexity at local, national, regional, and international levels. It remains committed to engaging with partners on the ground to continue delivering high-quality research that supports policymakers and farmers in times of transition. In a world of rapid change and uncertainty, the need for evidence-based, principled, and adaptive policy research and advocacy has never been greater.
This session offers examples of how CGIAR is working with partners to respond to complex challenges during times of crisis, change, and uncertainty—delivering high-quality, evidence-based policy strategies and influencing development outcomes. The side event provides an opportunity to showcase rapid response tools and reflect on the challenges and opportunities presented by global policy shifts and evolving policy processes, while charting a path forward for research organizations like CGIAR and its partners, committed to equitable and sustainable development.
