On 6 August 2026, the CGIAR Sustainable Farming Program (SFP) will host a virtual event to introduce its updated research structure for the 2026–2030 phase. This is not the launch of a new program. Rather, it marks a sharper, more integrated approach to delivering the work that CGIAR has been building for years alongside governments, national systems, farmers, development partners, and the private sector.
The updated structure reorganizes SFP's research portfolio around five integrated Areas of Work, creating a clearer framework for collaboration, innovation, and impact. The event will introduce this structure to SFP's global stakeholder community and position the program ahead of the Africa Food Systems Forum (AFSF) 2026 in Kigali.
Designed as more than a one-way briefing, the event will combine presentations from SFP leadership and Area of Work leads with panel discussions featuring key stakeholders, including national agricultural research and extension systems (NARES), donors, farmers, policymakers, and private sector partners. These conversations will provide stakeholders with an opportunity to reflect on how the new structure translates into shared priorities, stronger partnerships, and collective action.
At the heart of this approach is the belief that farmers are co-designers and validators of agricultural innovation, not merely recipients of it. Solutions are developed collaboratively with national systems and partners, while resilience is built through integrated approaches that combine soil and plant health, water management, digital advisory services, early warning systems, AI-enabled decision support, and precision agronomy. National institutions lead implementation, the private sector supports scaling, and CGIAR provides the evidence base. Partnership is the pathway to scale.
