By 2050, 2/3 of the world’s extreme poor will live in fragile settings, 70% of the global population will live in cities, and small islands around the world will face growing exposure to supply chain vulnerabilities and climate risks.
The Frontier Foods and Security program will strengthen food security and resilience in fragile and conflict-affected, urban and peri-urban, and island food systems—three iconic “Frontier Food Systems” of the Anthropocene. Frontier food systems are influential over global food system trajectories and share challenges such as resource scarcity, food insecurity, malnutrition, and environmental threats, compounded by weak governance.
The program engages with diverse partners to build resilience in – and learn from – these globally representative food systems.
