As demand grows for more sustainable, climate-resilient, and nature-positive food systems, there is an increasing need for reliable ways to measure what is happening across farms, habitats, supply chains, and entire landscapes. Yet significant gaps remain between what can be observed on the ground and the information needed by policymakers, businesses, investors, and communities to make informed decisions. This webinar explores how emerging data and analytical tools are helping close that measurement gap, enabling more accurate assessments of ecosystem health, soil carbon, nutrient dynamics, greenhouse gas emissions, land condition, and sustainability outcomes across multifunctional landscapes.
Professor Jacqueline McGlade, Founder and Chief Scientist of Downforce Technologies and former Chief Scientist and Chief Statistician at UN Environment, will present a data analytics framework that combines Earth observation, Google Earth Engine, machine learning, and digital soil modelling to deliver field-validated measurements at scale. Drawing on global applications, she will demonstrate how these tools are being used to support environmental monitoring, MRV systems, greenhouse gas reporting, product traceability, regenerative agriculture, climate-risk modelling, and investment decision-making across diverse food systems and supply chains.
This webinar is hosted by the CGIAR Multifunctional Landscapes (MFL) Science Program, which works with partners to support landscapes that sustain food production, biodiversity, climate resilience, and livelihoods. By bringing together science, data, and practical applications, the event aims to generate discussion on how better measurement can support more effective landscape management and accelerate progress toward sustainable development and climate goals.
