The 31st Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP31) will be held from 9 to 20 November 2026 in Antalya, Türkiye. At COP31, food, land and water systems must be at the heart of climate action, and of efforts to strengthen food security, economic stability and resilience.
Climate extremes increasingly combine with conflict, health crises, price volatility and disruptions to global trade. When food, land and water systems are weak, the consequences spread quickly: food prices rise, nutritious diets become harder to access and livelihoods are lost. These effects fall unevenly, particularly on women, young people, smallholder farmers, pastoralists, fishers, Indigenous Peoples and other communities directly dependent on natural resources.
Food, land and water are interconnected. Water scarcity shapes what can be grown; land-use decisions affect water availability, carbon storage and biodiversity; and farming choices influence emissions, productivity and livelihoods. Action in one area can generate benefits but can also shift risk to another. Effective climate policy therefore depends on evidence that helps make these trade-offs visible and helps decision-makers assess the costs and consequences of different options.
The Food & Agriculture Pavilion, co-hosted by CGIAR and FAO, will bring together governments, researchers, farmers and community representatives, civil society, financial institutions and the private sector to move from ambition to implementation. Its programme will explore how adaptation and mitigation can work together, and how science, locally led action, policy and investment can strengthen resilience at scale.
Through dialogue, scientific evidence and practical examples, the Pavilion will highlight partnerships and innovations that help countries manage today’s climate impacts while reducing the risks still to come—and ensure that food, land and water systems contribute to a more stable, equitable and secure future.
