Agri‑food systems sit at the heart of multiple, interconnected global crises. They are among the largest drivers of climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation, while at the same time shaping food security, livelihoods, and social equity. Yet these systems also represent one of the most powerful leverage points for delivering synergistic outcomes across the three Rio Conventions.

Fragmented policies and siloed implementation across climate, biodiversity, and land agendas have limited impact and higher costs and, in some cases, exacerbated trade‑offs. Transforming agri‑food systems, however, offers a unique opportunity to align national responses to climate change, biodiversity loss, and land degradation while advancing human well‑being. 

Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), are the main national instruments for translating global commitments under the Paris Agreement, the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the UNCCD 2030 Strategic Framework into action. Together, they shape national policy priorities, institutional mandates, and investment flows across agriculture, climate, biodiversity, and land‑use sectors. When these instruments are strategically aligned through a food systems perspective, they can enable more coherent policymaking, coordinated implementation, and more effective mobilisation of public and private finance. Such alignment helps reduce policy and investment trade‑offs while maximising synergies and co‑benefits across the three Rio Conventions. 

Objectives 
This event will open the discussion in the Triple COP Year 2026, setting the stage for practical pathways to enhance coherence across NDCs, NBSAPs, and LDN targets, and to advance integrated, agri-food systems based implementation at national level. This workshop will: 
- Discuss global messages to enhance coherence across the three Rio Conventions, highlighting agri‑food systems as a unique lever for ambitious policies, finance, and implementation in the Triple COP Year 2026. 
- Showcase concrete country experiences and emerging good practices that demonstrate how integrated approaches can unlock co‑benefits, reduce trade‑offs, and mobilize finance for transformative action. 
- Present the Food Forward NDCs & NBSAPs and discuss potential strength for implementation of NDC 3.0. And learn from existing approaches 
- Catalyse ambitious, coordinated action at national and regional levels, while fostering a collaborative space for shared learning and the co‑creation of solutions and tools that support long‑term food systems transformation.
